Gone to worst case scenario help

Hi every I’m sandy I’m 44, I didn’t have a lump I just kept getting a weird pain in my breast, went to GP said probably hormonal I knew it wasn’t it felt different. Went back and got referred to breast clinic. Had mammogram because of my age, after doctor checked and he couldn’t feel anything. Mammogram picked up microcalcifications in right breast, was called back in for further images and a magnifying one, couldn’t be seen on ultrasound. Was told it’s indeterminate so now gotta go and have a biopsy next week I am so scared my daughter is young I’ve literally read on google and it’s all really bad microcalcifications usually cancer poor prognosis all sorts

I actually can’t cope with the wait I’m so scared

  • Calcifications outside of a previous BC diagnosis or current diagnosis usually turn out to be nothing. Could be an old cyst that burst, could be anything. As for Google, do not go down that rabbit hole. Google always gives you the worst case scenario, because Google is driven by ads, and scary stories generate the most traffic. Google can't and won't tell anyone what they have or don't have. It can't. It's not a diagnostic tool. Scans, biopsies etc are diagnostic tools. Keep Googling and you'll keep getting told you have cancer, you have the worst case you can have. Yeah, Google can't differentiate between pre cancer, cancer, or something benign. Benign generates no money for Google.

  • Hi Sandy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your concerns, but it sounds as if your care team are being thorough, which has to be reassuring. With nothing showing on ultrasound yet, you are very fortunate that these microcalcifications have been picked up. They should be easily treated too, so no need for panic. I totally agree with ProfBraw about Google. Consulting "Dr Google", is the worst thing that you could possibly do and will only serve to scare you more, without giving any answers.

I sincerely hope that your biopsy results don't show any untoward changes and that routine monitoring might be the way forward for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
