Cervical cancer

Wanted to see if anyone has been through anything similar please. At the age of 25 I had my first smear test which came back high abnormal cells. I was then made an appointment for a colonoscopy and removal which was done and a biopsy taken. 4 weeks later I had a phone call to discuss my results which they told me I had micro invasive cancer. I had an MRI scan to check it hadn’t spread which thank god it hadn’t. I was then put into remission for 5 years and check ups for 10 years. I have been clear for 9 years now but had a baby in March. I had my colposcopy and smear test done in august and it has come back as HR HPV and low grade changes but I’m not going to be seen for another year. Would just like some advice as now I’m very worried. Thank you.

  • Hello Lauren2311

I'm sorry to hear that your most recent cervical check up in August came back as showing HPV with low grade changes. I can understand your concerns especialily give your previous history.

Was you check up in August through your GP surgery or through the specialist team at the hospital? It's certainly worth getting in touch with the hospital team to voice your concerns and ask for some feedback. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses first you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Alternatively you might want to get in touch with Jo's Trust for some advice and support.

Hopefully you can speak with one of the hospital specialists soon so that you can have some peace of mind.

    Best wishes,

  • I had my checkup at the hospital as I am under a consultant still but it was another doctor there that sent the letter on their behalf.

I will contact the hospital and ask to speak to someone about it all. Thank you
