My mum has throat cancer which has spread to her lung

Hi to anyone reading this,

I struggled to write this or talk about my mums cancer, feels wrong saying or typing the words that my mum has cancer.   She’s been battling throat cancer for a year, but it has now moved to her lung as well.  She cannot have any more treatment currently due to her white blood cells being too low.

Can I ask if anyone please has any hope that this isn’t as bad as it seems, or if it is just bad.

thank you in advance

  • Hello Karabbphoto,

I am so sorry to hear that your mum has been battling throat cancer for a year and that it has now spread to her lung. It's sad that she cannot have any more treatment at the moment due to her white blood cells being too low. I hope that this changes and that she is able to resume treatment. It must be so hard for her loved ones who probably feel a little powerless. I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been affected by cancer in a similar way and have looked after a loved one who had a similar diagnosis.

It's difficult for anyone on this forum to say really how advanced her cancer might be as her medical team will know best and will have all her medical details but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you are welcome to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I will now let our members come and say hello and share their story with you. I hope you won't mind but I have slightly edited your title to include more details of your mum's cancer so that your post can be seen more easily by anyone who may have had a similar diagnosis.

We're thinking of you and your mum during this difficult time and wanted you to know that we are here for you.

    Best wishes,
