Asbestos exposure

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help or advise me as I'm having a real struggle at the moment.

I recently had a leak on a flat roof at my property with was made up of asbestos bitumen felt, I couldn't afford to have it removed by an asbestos company so I took it down very carefully myself to get it ready for a friend to fibreglass the roof.

When my friend turned up he immediately grinded along the edge of the felt to get a straight line, I couldn't believe it!

I am trying to reason with this as I was about 10 yards away and it was outside, but I have been concerned as he was using some of my tools and a ladder that he was using was put back on my van without being washed down and i now think that my van and everything in it is contaminated even after I've washed everything down, having a bit of a meltdown to be honest so any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

  • Hello, this is unlikely to cause any long term harm. In general you need to be breathing asbestos particles in again and again over a period of time. Wash everything down and forget about it.

  • Hi

Thanks for your response, I'm trying really hard! I've washed all my tools down but my head is relentless, I noticed some of my toolbags have woven straps and have been worried the asbestos might be stuck in there! I know I'm overthinking a little, its exhausting every time I think I've cleaned everything I notice something else I have missed so m have to start all over again, the amount of clothes I've thrown out is getting ridiculous.

Your words have given me some reassurance so thank you very much

    Kind regards
