High Calprotectin

Hi everyone new to the group. I started with bloating and excessive wind for 2 weeks. And then I had stomach cramps and Diarrhoea and fatigue for 4 days been fine since and feeling back to normal. I went to the doctors and they requested a stool sample and sent it to the lab for 3 tests. I got a call to go see the doctors and was told my calprotectin is raised and urgent referral to gastric for a colonoscopy which was my worse fear. So now waiting to have the procedure which I am really anxious about. I believe my calprotectin was 800. Also have bloods Tuesday!

  • Hello Gold0586,

You did well to go and see the doctor after experiencing these troublesome intestinal symptoms. I am sorry to hear your calprotectin is raised - try not to be alarmed by this as there are many reasons why calprotectin levels may be raised but it's good that they are being thorough and  have referred you to have a colonoscopy just so you can know for sure what is going on.

It's normal to be anxious as you are waiting to have the procedure and I thought I would share with you our information on the colonoscopy so that you can feel prepared ahead of your appointment. I hope you won't have to wait too long to be seen and that everything goes well on Tuesday when you have your blood tests. Waiting for test results can be really stressful and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had high calprotectin before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
