Thigh sarcoma

This is my first post, I had an MRI last Monday as I have a swollen leg, the results came back on Thursday and I’ve been told it’s a sarcoma I’ve been referred to an oncology unit under the two week wait, I’m in shock, and struggling to deal with my wide range of emotions, from hopelessness, despair and being extremely frightened and unsure what happens next, thanks for reading my post, it helps a bit to be able to share

  • Hi, I understand what you are going through. I myself was diagnosed with a sarcoma on my calf 11 days ago. I took my lump when it was a pea to the doctor who sent me for an xray. Nothing showed up so he referred me to an orthopedic  surgeon who ordered an MRI. he told me it was a lump that needed removing. He set me up for an operation and more scans including an ultra sound. On the day of the operation just as the canular  was being put into my hand he walked in and said the operation was cancelled. That was it, no explanation.

Moving forward 12 weeks I get a phone call to go to see a specialist. I sat with my wife in this office where the consultant stated that 10 this should of been picked up in the first set of MRI images, she had all my scans and told me i had cancer and that yes there was a chance I could lose my leg. All of this started on the 15/12/22. I have had a biopsy and im due back on Monday for another MRI and a ct scan on my chest. to say I am scared is an understatement some days I can talk about it and be the next time I cry, I cry so hard, i am not ready for all this.

  • Hi, Im sorry you are going through this, I feel exactly the same, I’m very up and down, and feeling completely overwhelmed, mine started the end of Feb 2023 when I tore a muscle and my leg swelled up and never went down, I went to the gp numerous times and was told it was nothing to worry about until I finally had an ultrasound in September this showed increased blood supply so I was sent for an MRI, I’m now waiting on my first consultants appointment

  • I hope you get a good one. Do not read about it on google,i did,                           you will never sleep again. I feel I was totally messed about and that it should of been found back when they had the first MRI results.

  • Thank you, I have looked at Google and totally wish I hadn’t, I’m struggling to eat or sleep thanks to google. Yes I think they should of found it at the first MRI results, I was also messed around as I didn’t get my ultrasound for 6 months as they didn’t think there was anything to worry about
