  • Hi stoma-Simon I read your post and I’m reaching out to you. My husband who’s 80 has had kidney cancer, had a kidney out 5 years ago, having yearly CT scans, the last one picked up stomach and FNHL ( lymphoma) had 12 radiotherapy for groin lymphoma in June before that had his stomach out in Jan, doing fine until a blood test for stomach showed low iron then 2 positive FIT tests , as he hasn’t a stomach and couldn’t drink all the prep he had a virtual CTC , just had a phone call from a nurse he has 4 polyps either side and one flat one so now he has to have a colonoscopy with the prep. Life has all of a sudden got really scary. I don’t know why I’m writing this just hoping someone will give us any tips on drinking the prep without a stomach x

  • Hi Sue,

The prep isn't too bad, basically to clear out the colon - that said, not sure what to do if your husband hasn't got a stomach. I would have thought it would work the same - it is a bit like a laxative - have you checked with the nurses ? maybe they could offer a different laxative. ?

The prep is 2 pints of liquid to be taken in two doses - about 6 hours between.

From what i went through Polyps are fine, but some can lead to more serious conditions, so they want to be safe and deal with them - when your husband has the colonoscopy it is so simple for them to remove them, they do this with the camera and you can't feel a thing !. it really is nothing to worry about.

He really needs a clear bowel, so if prep isn't an option i guess start to reduce food intake, as i said the nurse should help.

Dont worry, better to get through this and get it sorted

    Good Luck

    Simon

  • Thanks Simon, it’s not the colonoscopy that’s the worry it’s drinking the prep, the nurse who phoned up said for a colonoscopy there’s nothing else it has to be the prep, so I guess that’s what has to be done, Maybe it should have been done to start with and saved a few weeks. Another nurse will phone up about the prep. Thanks Simon and I hope your doing ok xx
