AM - Advanced prostate cancer and leakage. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hello , well my husband had a bleed on the brain so is disabled but we try to Have as much as possible a normal life this happens 5  years ago then I found he had advanced prostrate cancer . I am lucky we have a great consultant and local GP.

For some time now he has problems with leakage from his bowl which he finds uncomfortable and very embarrassing.  I arranged for him to see a specialist they basically said no problem in the lower bowl and with all his other problems best to just leave it . Just wondering if any body else with PC has  these problems .

  • Hello amdocker

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and all the other health challenges that he is living with. It's understandably a difficult time for you both.

Whilst it's good to hear that the bowel specialist didn't have any immediate concerns about your husband's symptoms obviously this doesn't relieve the problem for you.

We know that some men who have treatment for prostate cancer struggle with bladder and/or bowel incontinence after their treatment. You can read more about this on the Prostate Cancer UK website. You might also want to have a look at the Bladder & Bowel UK website. They have a team of specialist nurses that you can talk to for advice and support. Don't also be afraid to get back in touch with your husband's GP.

I do hope that you're able to access some support to improve this issue for you both.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello , I would ring his nurse practitioner and ask if they can refer your husband to the continence team . They will be able to assess him and arrange for products for him or advice .
