Large lump found in breast, 2ww.

Hello

On Monday I found a hard lump when putting my bra on. I rang the Dr on Tuesday and was examined on Wednesday.

I wasn't feeling too scared until the Dr examined me and said that the lump is 4cm, and her face changed once she'd asked about my family history (Mum BC, maternal aunty x 2 BC all before 50).

Wednesday pm she told me to stop my HRT.

I am now waiting for an appointment at the hospital breast clinic, and I'm really scared.

I have cysts in my left breast and have had biopsies done, so I know what to expect, but this time the lump feels different. It's hard, and the edges aren't smooth, it's not painful either.

I had a mammogram last week and nothing was picked up then.

I guess I need a hand hold.

  • Hello :)

Big lump here too, but I didn't find it myself, it was found by the ANP when I went to get checked out for some burning sensation in my boob. She estimated mine at 5cm.

I've just got my hospital appointment for the 25th Sept. It's a really anxious wait but you're not alone :) It's hard not to think the worst. I'm trying to keep busy and failing miserably.

    Best wishes and hugs

  • Same here. I seem to be so tired all of a sudden and instead of getting out of bed and doing things I'm just moping around.

  • Hi Sycamore,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you have found a lump, but glad to hear that you have acted quickly. It is an anxious time, but you have definitely done the right thing. I hope that your breast clinic appointment comes through soon, so that you can get some answers.  I lost my gran, mum and several other relatives to breast cancer and have since had two bouts myself. That was all 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

I don't know what age you are. With you just about to start university, I expect that you are still quite young. This should mean that you are less likely to get breast cancer than some of us oldies. As Laraj says, many lumps turn out to be benign cysts or fibrous changes. It is a fact that only 2 people out of every 10, who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are still good for you.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi PampersH,

    I

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this unenviable position too. It is a worrying time, but you're quite right, in that no amount of worry will change the outcome. I am glad to hear that your appointment has already come through and sincerely hope that it all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thank you for your reassuring words.

    I am 41.

  • Hello.

I'm still waiting for my breast clinic appointment. It's next Weds (4/10).

The Dr said I'll need an ultrasound and biopsy, as I've already had a recent mammogram done.

I'm still worried about it and not sleeping properly, which has given me shingles as I'm feeling run down.

Uni is keeping me busy though, and I have lots of support from family and friends, so I'm sure whatever happens I'll be ok.

  • So sorry that you're still waiting to be seen, bet your mind is on overdrive at the moment, I really hope the appointment is positive for you when it comes. Its really hard not to worry, I'm on the second worry stage as I'm now waiting for biospsy results on the opposite boob to the one i had symptoms with. So now I have one sore boob and one bruised boob.

How are you finding uni? What are you studying? I hope you're finding it all very exciting despite things going on in the background :D  Glad to see you've got support from family and friends too. It's good to chat through your fears sometime even just to get them off your chest.

    Hugs :)

    Xx

  • I'm studying a BA (Hons) in Craft and Material Practices. This trimester we are concentrating on Woodwork and Ceramics, next Trimester glass and metal work.

  • Oh wow that sounds amazing! I'm not creative in the slightest. Lots to keep you entertained and distracted x

  • Definitely. I applied to uni as I had a second chance at life and thought why not.

Two years ago my heart paused and I got a pacemaker fitted. It made me realise that I should get on with the things that I enjoy doing, and not worry about the if's and buts.

Fingers crossed this mindset comes back soon about this lump.

  • Hi Sycamore,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I totally agree with you - life is too short to let opportunities pass us by. This is just another blip in the road - I'm sure that you'll soon be back to a more positive mindset. I'm glad to see that your appointment is next Wednesday and hope that the fact that your recent mammogram didn't show up anything untoward, augers well for your results. Out of every 10 people who attend the breast clinic, only 2 get a cancer diagnosis.

I have a strong link to breast cancer in my family too and understand how worrying this is. However, I have had 2 bouts myself and am still living life to the full, 14 years after diagnosis.

I shall be thinking of you on Wednesday and sincerely hope that all goes well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • What a great mindset! I admit I will be giving my head a wobble and reevaluating my life choices after this. Life's far too short. Having said that i'm still in bed at 11.15 with a brew, clearly not making the most of my Saturday. Or maybe I am?!

I had a wobbly anxious day yesterday with lots of negative thoughts, today I'm feeling a bit brighter. It's a bit of a roller coaster no matter what part of this journey you are on.

    Positive thoughts for Weds x

  • I had good news yesterday.

There's no sign of cancer. The large lump was a cyst. They drained the fluid off (15ml).

I've got to keep checking to make sure it doesn't refill. And keep up with my yearly mammograms.

I hope everyone else gets their results soon. The waiting is awful

  • Hi!

That's great news, really pleased for you! That's quite a bit of fluid I hope it's relieved the pressure a bit.

I had good news today, my calcifications are benign, they are so confident that I don't need any follow up although im not due for routine screening for another 6 years. My leftie pain they are putting down to hormones and I need to monitor that. I do think I'm in the beginnings of perimenopause so I'm comfortable with the decision they have made at MDT.

Echo that about the wait. Positive thoughts to all those waiting for appointments or results

    X

  • Hi Sycamore,

That is fantastic news - I'm delighted for you. I hope that they don't fill up again, but do keep checking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Pampers,

Two lots of good news in a row. I'm absolutely delighted for you. You must feel so relieved.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks it's definitely a relief, I feel like I've been in limbo for the past month. I think this experience has given me a good awareness though of what to look out for, what's normal for me and what's not. And the biggest lesson learnt is that although a 2ww referral is pretty scary, in reality it's there to make sure you are seen quickly, it doesn't always mean the worst news and the breast team really did look after me well.

This forum is really helpful too, it can be a painful wait to be seen but it's nice to connect with others who are in similar situations, whatever the outcome might be.

  • Great news Pampers- I’m really pleased for you. You must be so relieved xx
