Breast cancer appointment

I went to the doctor Friday to check out my breast.  My nipple has started going in. She has referred  me urgently to the hospital for more test.  I got a appointment today for next week. I’m really scared !!! will i find out on the day if there is anything wrong or will I have to wait again ? she said I would need a ultrasound.
thank you

  • That’s true- the waiting is horrible, isn’t it? One positive today is that my husband now seems to realise it could be something serious. Until now it’s been as though he was convinced it was nothing, so I didn’t really feel supported. That has now changed x

  • HI GoonerGirl,

I am sorry top hear that they didn't have any appointments for mammogram or ultrasound today. Please don't overthink getting your appointment through so quickly. This is actually slower than the majority, which are usually carried out at your first visit.

I hope that all goes well for you on Monday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you. I feel as though I’ve been through so many emotions over the past few days, but this evening I’m feeling calm, so that’s good. I just want to get the tests done and know the outcome, so then I can start to get to grips with what will happen x

  • Hi Bex,

A very warm, welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you've joined us. This is always a worrying time. I'm glad to hear that you already have your appointment for the breast clinic. Some clinics are one stop shops, while others are not so organised. Most will test you on your first appointment, although you may sometimes have to return because all appointments for mammogram, ultrasound or biopsy are already taken. If they carry out a biopsy, you will usually have to wait another 1-2 weeks to get the results. These are the three tests that are most usually carried out.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I know It’s so hard but can do this. How did you get on today ??? Xx

  • Hiii oh thank you. Hopefully it’s all done in one day. I’m going on Sunday morning first thing so hopefully they can do everything they need .
    thank you so much

    xx

  • Hi,

All went ok. I had a mammogram, then ultrasound and biopsy in 2 places on the same breast, and they put markers in before sending me back for a check mammogram. The nurses/ doctors that saw me were all really lovely, and in particular the lady that did the ultrasound went to great lengths to make sure I understood what was going on etc. She looked at my armpit and said that my lymph nodes looked normal, and commented that was a positive. Interestingly, both the nurse that did the mammogram and the ultrasound doctor commented that they were surprised I noticed the tethering, because of where on the breast it is.

Anyway, I’m a bit sore and bruised tonight but feel a lot better mentally. I don’t know how I’ll feel tomorrow, but it’s nice to be able to switch off the thoughts a little bit. I hope you feel a bit more positive after your appointment too xx

  • Hi Bex,

It's good to hear that your appointment is early on Sunday morning. I shall be thinking of you and I hope that all goes well and that you don't have to wait too long for your results.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Oh I’m so glad it went well. Hopefully it’s good news then and everything is ok. Finger crossed for you. Xx

  • Thank you. I feel a lot more hopeful today than I have been, and feel I’ll cope with whatever the outcome may be. Tomorrow may be different, but it’s nice not to feel on the brink of tears all the time for a change!! x
