Hi all,
Last week I had my mother taken to hospital. For the past 3 months she has been wheezing and extremely breathless. It got to the point where she couldn't get washed and dressed as she couldn't make it up the stairs. The GP sent her for 3 chest x rays. After the third they told us we had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment. I called 111 because of her severe ill health and they sent us straight to the hospital. She had a chest CT scan and was reffered to an acute assessment ward, that showed fluid around the heart which gave us great optimism because it was easy to treat, within 30 minutes we were being ushered into the relatives room being told they had found a large mass in the chest which is more than likely cancer. its pushing on her airway causing the breathing issue.
The results should be in tomorrow, they have already been talking about treatment and she's being sent to hospital to have a stent in her airway to prepare for any further treatment she will need.
How does one deal with this worry? I feel like the initial news was like taking a bullet, but now the waiting feels awful. Feels like we are waiting for a sentence, that we are going to hear that she's only got a certain amount of time to live. It's such an uncertain time and with our answers or anyone to talk to I have reached out here.
Really hope you have some advice.
