Hello I'm Jen - My dad has cancer and I'm in a new world

Hello,

I'm Jen.  Yesterday threw my family into a whole new world that you never think you'll be in.  My dad was told he has aggressive rare bladder cancer.  We were just there to get a plan of action really and didn't expect the worst news possible.  I live with my mum and dad and we are super close.  I also have a brother and sister and they are both married/engaged.

I'm a teacher and I go back to work next week and I don't know how I am supposed to function let alone act like a happy teacher.

I'd love to meet some people who are in the same boat and can tell me some strategies and tell me its OK to carry on as normal a bit - because that's the last thing I want to do right now.  I just want my dad to be OK and just don't care about anything else.

Thanks

Jen

  • Sorry to read this Jen, have you looked on face book at Fight Bladder Cancer, it’s a private group you join but people are so supportive, I’m sure you’ll find a lot of help there. I have grade 3 bladder cancer, had BCG treatment and been clear for 11 years. There is hope. Good luck to your dad and I’ll look for you on fight bladder cancer xx

  • Hi Sue,

Thank you for your reply.  My dad has Sarcomatoid Cancer and it's really rare and they've said that chemo and radio might not touch it but we may have the option to try.

I will check out the Facebook page - thank you so so much for replying it means so very very much to just have someone there.  It's a very isolating business and we are only 1 day into diagnosis.

I will look out for you too xxx

  • You’re welcome Jen and I hope the doctors can help your dad. It’s a worrying time when you first start out as you don’t know what you’re dealing with and the waiting is just the worst thing ever. I don’t post much on that site now but the people are so knowledgeable and I’m sure will give you all the help you want x
