Incidental finding after thyroid remova

Hi .

About Cancer Research UK I only know from TV ,internet and other media services. And when I had the possibility I did few donations towards .

I work in Nhs and cancer is unfortunately a daily phrase in our" routine". Sad but it is.

My story :I  had a long time ,chronic thyroid condition ,which has required the removal of the entire gland,no other things were expected. However the histology has revealed 2 cancers in both lobes. In a world of cancers growth were relatively small.

Currently the problem has been dealt with, no treatment is currently required. But the fear and worrying about if anywhere else or recurrence is still big .

Only few people know and all were shocked by the news , but most of my family don't,I simply can't put this burden on their shoulders.

I need someone to talk to .

43 years old ,very young daughter.

Thank you

  • Hi. I had thyroid cancer three and a half years ago, not very small in my case, a 10.5cm cyst, 6.7cm of which was cancerous. It had also spread to 8 lymph nodes. They removed my thyroid and I've had no problems since.

Yeah, recurrence is always a bit of a worry and for the first year, it was kind of on my mind a fair bit, but from what I've read, the odds are against it and as I'm sure you know, the odds of papillary cancer spreading outside the neck are very low. I don't know what form of thyroid cancer you have had, of course, but in general, thyroid cancer is rarely life-threatening. I recently put my situation into a cancer survival rate app and got "higher than 99%" for ten years. That is the same for both papillary and follicular.

It is very likely you are done with treatment.

Feel free to message me if you want to chat.

  • Thank you so much for replying. Mine was papillary carcinoma , statistics are very good for this type of cancer ,but yes like you said the worrying is still there .

I'm very happy you feel well and you're so positive . I think this is what will help the most with coping , experiences and stories from other people.

Thank you so much again xxxx
