Positive FIT Test 200, 39 years old

Hi, I'm a dad of 4 and husband also 39 years old. I've been having stomach issues for years with on off bleeding and just put it off. It started to get really bad the last 2 months and needing to go toilet fairly often. My Doctor tested me for absolutely everything, bloods stool samples etc... They all came back all fine and said its probably IBS. I refused the examination as I felt embarrassed. She said let's do a FIT test to cover everything. This came back positive results with a reading off over 200. Scared to death now. Im booked in a week Friday for the camera that I'm also freaked out about also what they might find. Just looking for some reassurance? Also is the procedure OK?

Really scared is an understatement. I've got 4 children and a wife that need me and their whole world will be difficult without me.

Thanks in advance,

  • Hi I had the procedure last year with the sedation they offer and it was absolutely fine ,I take it its a Colonoscopy procedure  ??  my fit test was very low compared to yours but results can go up to the very high hundreds and its more likely to be nothing too serious than cancer ,there are so many things than can cause your symptoms and test result ,I had a few of the symptoms you mention and mine turned out to be Diverticulitis polyp and piles too ,I was like you scared to death its natural to think the worst ,but most turn out to be ok even with high fit test .

  • Hi, yes it's a Colonoscopy. Yes I keep telling myself not to worry but like you said, you just think the worst. I was worried about the procedure. That's good they can give you sedation. Just been alot to take in I think. Just putting a brave face on for my family but totally melting inside. Hence why I'm here.

I really appreciate your support here it makes me feel a bit better, it really does.

  • I am in a similar situation. Going to the toilet a lot and bleeding. My bloods were fine other than low B12 which she didn't seem concerned about. Did a FIT test with a result of 400. So like you I was really worried. Had a colonoscopy last Wednesday where they found inflammation and some ulcers. They took 8 biopsies, which I am still waiting for results from. So it's most likely something like Inflammatory bowel disease. The colonoscopy was absolutely fine! They give you a sedative which makes you feel chilled and a bit woozy. They said I could have gas & air too if I needed it but I didn't. It wasn't at all as scary as I imagined! Afterwards you just rest for about an hour, have some tea & toast then they will go over your report and then you can go home. The worst part for me was the bowel preparation. The laxatives they give you to drink are difficult to drink. I had to have 2 doses and it literally took me 2 hours to drink each dose! Honestly don't worry about the colonoscopy you will be fine. Just make sure you drink and eat plenty when you get home afterwards. I felt so tired when I got home I just went straight to bed and when I woke I felt horrendous. I really should have ate and drank plenty before I went to sleep as my body was just so empty. Hope that helps.
