Bereaved

Hi everyone

It is my first time on anything like this - so, hello!  Mum died recently of cancer....I miss her desperately.

  • Hi Sparky,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I am so sorry to hear why you're here. My sincere sympathy on the loss of your mum.

Losing our mums is one of the biggest tragedies in our lives and one that takes quite some time to come to terms with. I lost my mum to cancer 24 years ago and I still miss her every day, but I will always hold her in my heart. One thing that I found helpful to have shortly after she passed, was a photograph of her, which I left in a prominent place. I often found myself talking to her when I passed it, especially in the early days. I still do occasionally, but not so often these days. There are different stages to grief and there is no time limit on how long it takes to come to terms with your loss.

You will never forget your mum, even with the passage of time, but you will come to accept your loss eventually and learn how to cope with it. I hope that you have other family members to support you at this time. It is often helpful to be able to talk about her with one another and recall memories of happier times. Don't worry if you still feel very tearful. Crying is a good way to relieve stress and it will lessen with time.

Please know that you are not on your own. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
