I'm new to this - mum will no longer be having immunotherapy. So scared about her prognosis and what happens next

Hello,

I'm writing this in total shock and not sure what I actually want to say but feel that I want to talk about cancer and be able to ask advice confidentially.

We found out this afternoon that my lovely mum will no longer be receiving Immunotherapy treatment, as her scan results show that her Kidney cancer has grown to 10cm.

I'm terrified about what is ahead and what the prognosis is.  I want to know, so that I can arrange for mum to see and do exactly want she wants whilst she feeling well and ok.

But I didn't want to ask the Oncologist whilst mum was there.

Thank you

  • Welcome to the community Linzj although I'm sorry to hear your mum's kidney cancer has grown and that she will no longer be receiving immunotherapy.

It must have been very difficult to hear this but we are here for you Linzj, and I'm sure some of our members who have been on this journey will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

Although our cancer nurses can't tell you what will happen next, you're very welcome to talk things through with them on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to support you at this time.

We're thinking of you Linzj and sending all our strength your way.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Linzj,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm so sorry to hear why you're here.

I have no experience of kidney cancer, but I well remember feeling as you do, when we were told that they could do no more for my own mum. She had secondary breast cancer at the time and it had spread to her brain, bones, liver and lungs. It wasn't an easy journey, but we did our best to do all the things she wanted to do and tried to make memories, while we could. I am always here if you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
