Non treated bowel cancer

Hi, thankyou for allowing me to join the group. My mum is nearly 89 and has bowel cancer. We made the decision as a family not to treat it but as her full time carer, I don't know what signs to look out for if it has spread.  I have spoken to the specialists and all they said is we won't know as we're not going to do any further tests. Is anyone else in the same situation please? I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Many thanks

  • Hi Goonerbird and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum's bowel cancer and that the specialists you spoke to haven't been very forthcoming with what signs to look out and be aware of if the cancer has spread.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in this position with their loved ones will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

I also hope the bowel cancer section of our website is useful but if you haven't done so already, it may be worth getting in touch with Bowel Cancer UK for further information and advice.

    Kind regards,
