Here I am again

I joined last year as my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer, and he passed away just a few months later.

I'm now going through it again with my mum. The last month or so has been packed with various tests, and today the GP told me that they suspect ovarian cancer but there are also suspicious looking areas in my mum's lungs.

I'm still grieving for my dad and just don't know if I have the strength to go though it again. I don't really know what I'm looking for on here really, just needed to vent to people who understand.

  • Hello GlitterB

I'm so very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad last year and that you're now facing the possibility that your Mum has cancer. It's understandable that you may be feeling overwhelmed by a wide range of emotions right now.

Accessing support can be vital at times like this to help you manage on a day-to-day basis. I don't know if you had any support with your grief after your Dad passed away but it may be an option to contact an organisation such as Cruse if this is something that you think may help. Alternatively, if there is a Maggie's centre near you then you may want to have a look at accessing some of the support options that they provide.

It's also worth making an appointment to chat with your GP about all that you have been through, that you're dealing with, and how you're feeling. They will know what services are available in your local area to support you and may be able to make suggestions about ways that the load can be lightened for you should your Mum be diagnosed with cancer.

Of course, you're also welcome to give our team of nurses a call and chat things through with them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Keep in touch GlitterB. Having a space to be able to put things down in writing can also help and we're here to listen and support you during this difficult time.

    Best wishes,
