Awaiting breast referral results - how do others cope?

Hi I’m nearly 43, I found a lump a few months back but only attended the doctors a few weeks ago as I was unsure what it was. They referred me straight away and I got an appointment with a surgeon at breast clinic. He did an ultrasound and said he was concerned about my lump and referred me to have mammogram. Had my mammogram yesterday, the doc said it looks suspiciously like cancer. I had 6 core biopsies done on 2 areas and markers put in. I need to wait a week for my results. I know in my heart what is coming, I seen the lump on the mammogram and it’s a spikey thing about 2 and half centimetres. The wait is torture. Sorry for ranting but wondering how others coped in this situation xx

  • I know it’s awful the waiting: I can’t think of anything positive that’s going to come from it after responses from doctors. I’ll do the same as you if I’m right and get my big girl pants on. I’m ready to fight this xx

  • Hi Missrooboo,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I have had two bouts of breast cancer and found this wait for a diagnosis the worst part of my entire cancer journey. I was told on both occasions, at the first visit to the breast clinic, that my consultant was pretty sure that had cancer. All you can do is to find something to keep your mind distracted with other matters and keep yourself busy with these.

Cancer treatments have advanced greatly throughout the past few years. It is now 14 years since I was first diagnosed and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
