Abnormal FIT and colonoscopy booked

Hi all

First time posting here, been reading some of your stories and looking for some reassurance /support from all you lovely people

did fit test and came back as abnormal which was not expecting, shocked to say the least !

had screening appointment booked for week later in which nurse said blood had been found in sample, couldn’t say how much blood when I asked as said they were not told that information? I now have a colonoscopy booked for 5th aug as nurse mentioned they wanted it done within 2 weeks, so in space of two weeks I’ve had result, screening and now will be having colonoscopy.

I am trying to stay positive as I know many different things can cause issues other than the big scary one but as I have had some issues with extreme constipation then on off loose poo, pain, bloating , sometimes feel like needing a poo and don’t go, and very windy (sorry if tmi )  and unfortunately looked at dr Google …I know, I shouldn’t have but …. I’ve now scared myself silly !!

I do have other health issues for which I am taking medication  I’ve also been having regular blood tests and some issues have been popping up , high red blood cell count ,low platelets, platelet clumping and high hemaglobin which is being monitored.

all in all a right pickle …sorry for length of post but just needed to share my concerns and didn’t want to stress my daughter as I always try to keep strong for her

thank you for reading and I wish you all good luck In whatever battles you are facing X

  • Hello Angeworryguts

I'm sorry to hear that your recent FIT test result was abnormal and that you're now waiting for a colonoscopy. it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may have caused these results.

It's important to keep in mind that there could be any number of reasons for an abnormal FIT result. We know that for many people this period of waiting for tests and results can be difficult and it's natural that people may be worried about a worst-case scenario. This is often exacerbated when people turn to the internet for information. Please try to avoid consulting Dr Google. Often the information you will find won't give you answers to your situation and will leave you feeling even more anxious.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can.

    Best wishes,
