PELVIC MASS/ADNEXAL MASS

Hello everyone

My name is Marta and I am 30years old,  I am now suspected of having ovarian cancer. I am so worried and scared, waiting for a diagnosis will kill me. I have 2 lovely children, Boy age 7 and Girl age 2

It started 7 weeks ago when I had some stabbing pain in the  right side of my pelvic. When I touched there I felt something was wrong because the place was very hard and painful. I decided to ring my gp and after a phone consultation he decided to send me for blood test and said that within 4 weeks I will get a letter with the date and time of the pelvic ultrasound to see what's going on.

My blood test including CA-125 levels was all normal and nothing to worry about. Also the stabbing pain after few days was gone so I have calmed down a bit.

After a week or so I started to feel a lump at the bottom of my belly which was bigger when my bladder was full. It was very big then and I could  feel it almost under my belly bar.

I went for my ultrasound  3 weeks later which showed a 9cm right pelvic mass with 5cm irregular solid appearing component with strong vascularity. My gp reffered me same day to the Two week wait clinic (urgent suspected cancer refferal)

When I went for the appointment with my consultant at hospital, On examination she felt a right adnexal mass which felt firm, mobile but not cystic.

She requested some more tumour markers blood test and MRI scan to assess the adnexal mass which I already had and I am now waiting for the results and next appointment with her to discuss next step.

She calmed me down a bit and said it is probably not cancer because I am young and no-one in my family had this cancer but I am still terribly afraid.

What bothers me the most is that the scan showed component with strong vascularity which I know is almost in malignant masses.

Does anyone had similar situation to mine which ended up well?

Thank you in advance for all the responds

Marta

  • Hello Marta,

It's difficult to say at this stage but you'll know more once you get your results. You'll be able to raise any concerns or questions and have more of an idea of the next steps. When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. This page here has some tips on waiting for results, which I hope will be helpful.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Marta.

I am going through similar and am awaiting MRI results which I will get next week.

fingers crossed that it is nothing to worry about for you, please keep me updated. Can I ask with you saying you have two children if you had a C-section? I’ve had no end of trouble since mine and had a laparoscopy in December which seems to have triggered the pain you describe and now a hard lump.

  • Hi Tasha

My both pregnancies ended with natural labour. I had MRI scan last Wednsday and I am still waiting for the results. They don't want to tell me my blood test results until they will have a scan report, so frustrating.

Have you had a scan recently that showed suspicious pelvic mass?

  • I haven’t had any other scan I was referred to haematology and he sent me for an MRI which I had last week. So we’re both in the same position in regards to waiting for results. I have a hard pelvic lump which they say isn’t lymph nodes so I just think the worst. X

  • Hi again. Have you had any results yet? I went for mine last week but was told they weren’t ready yet so I have another appointment on 15th August.

    Hope you’re doing okay
