Lung Nodules

My wife had renal cancer some years ago.  It seems to be dormant now but she still has 6 monthly CT scans.  The last two or three have indicated nodules in her lungs.  They were not concerned as they were very small.  Recently though they told her a nodules was 15mm up from 9mm 6 months earlier and are not sure how to progress.   Looking online that size seems far less likely to be benign.  Shoild we be worried?  The hospital seem to be waiting for the next 6 monthly scan.  We have been depressed ever since getting the news last month and really don't know what is in store

  • Hello LennardA,

I can understand why this is worrying you especially as the nodules have grown quite a bit and they seem not to know how to proceed. It is perhaps worth trying to get a second opinion if you feel you are not getting very convincing answers. Perhaps try and see another specialist and share your concerns with them about the size of these nodules. You can find out more about how to get a second opinion on this page. Try not to worry too much though and avoid looking things up online too often as it will only make you more anxious without giving you any certainty - there could be a number of explanations for these nodules so don't assume the worst at this stage. It's good though to flag the things you are concerned about with a medical expert so that they can assess the situation as soon as possible and tell you what the next steps might be and whether they should be acting quicker and not just wait for the next 6 monthly scan.

If you would like to talk to one of our lovely cancer nurses about this, they may be able to point you in the right direction. You can reach them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Other members of our community may have been in a similar place before and I hope that they will drop by and say hello and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
