Worried after biopsy and lymph nodes

Hi, I had ultraspund yesterday and mamogram. A lump is solid and they found enlarged lymph nodes. Had multiple biopsy and now waiting 1 week for results. I am lucky I am under private health care and saw a consultant straight away. He said they are very concerned. My husband is trying to be positive until we know what we are dealing with but I am the sort of person that needs to prepare myself for worse case scenario. As the consultant said we are very concerned a few times I am guessing they can tell from scans it is very likely the C word. Has anyone had a lump and enlarged lymph nodes that had turned out to be negative? I am 38 with 2 young children so naturally feeling all sort of thoughts.  Thanks in advance for any replies

  • Not at all :)

I am OK today thanks, looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow to keep my mind off of things. I have  a 2 year old and 5 year old keeping me busy all weekend lol x

  • Oh that’s busy I can imagine a 2 year old and5 year old lol

yes work definitely keeps our mind off work keeps me sane lol although I moan everyday about it it sure does keep us on our toes xx

  • Hi VanessaRobbo,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

This is always a worrying time and our vivid imaginations tend to lead us to all sorts of dark places. Fortunately, only 2 people out of every 10 who attend the breast clinic, get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are still good for you. I have been in your position on three occasions, when my consultant told me at my first appointment, that he was pretty sure that I had cancer. Twice he was correct, but the third time, biopsy proved that it was benign. I suspect that surgeons sometimes tell us this early on, to give us time to start to come to terms with a cancer. diagnosis, rather that hitting us head on when we return for our results. From looking at scans, they can detect the likelihood of certain cancers, by the presentations of certain lumps. However, the biopsy is what is needed to identify whether or not cancer is present.

If you are prepared for the worst case scenario, it will be areal bonus if you get the all clear. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be cysts or fibrous changes. Diagnosis, treatment and after care have all made tremendous strides in the past few years. I was first diagnosed 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life - I'm sure that you will too. I'm glad to see that you don't have too long now to wait for your results. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Lara, I am OK thank you. I had the diagnoses Thursday night as expected. I had full prepared myself so taken it well. I should find out more about a treatment plan next week. It will be upfront chemo and then surgery. The consultant was very positive. I think everyone else around me has taken the news worse than me! Lol x

  • Hi Vanessa,

I am sorry to hear that it is cancer, but it's good to hear that you are fairly upbeat about it - this will help as you start your treatment. The more positive you can be with friends and family, the better they'll cope.

As Laraj said, this is just a bump in the road and you will certainly come out stronger the other side.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Lara, I am OK thank you. I'm hoping to start chemo week after next, just awaiting results from a PET CT scan. The treatment plan will be over 21 weeks then surgery but they are confident they can sheink  it with the chemo so that's good  thanks for the message :)
