Pre referral worries

Hello I am new to this group and have no diagnosis but have been told after a stool sample i will need a referral so the panic has set in as reading when you may need a referral i don’t fit any of the sections in full description. I was wondering if anyone could give me general advise as at present I am in full blown snotty teared panic mode haven’t had the best few years and can’t deal with much more x

  • It sounds like maybe you got a result that said you had blood in your stool? Lots of things can cause that - a fissure, hemorrhoids, an infection, a polyp, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis and in some cases, cancer, so they need to find out what it is in your case, in case it is anything that needs treating.

In your case, it sounds like the odds are high it's the diverticulitis, since you were thinking that might be a concern.

  • I really hope your right and thinking of your symptoms I am inclined to think its not the worst too I wish i coukd feel the positivity and clear thinking about myself that i can others x

  • Trust me when I say that many many people are failing this test but the majority don't have cancer its just a precaution being referred ,but having blood in your stools can be caused by so many other things ,I know that feeling of panic and I was just like you but the hospital put me at ease instantly they were so lovely and then at the end they'll tell you if they have found anything in my case they said nothing to worry about and discharged me back to the GP .

  • I really pray I am this bracket had an awful few year losing both parents within a week to covid son being removed from school & stress of behaviour possibly to adhd and austism etc walking on eggshells daily etc i know a lot go through this but my only support was my parents. I am terrified beyond belief

  • I think it's fairly normal to find it easier to be positive about others. I'm the same. When I hear somebody getting a referral like this, I think it highly unlikely they have cancer but when I was in the same situation, I kept thinking, "yeah, the odds are against it but they were against my having thyroid cancer too and somebody will be the one in 10 or 20 or 100 and what if it is me?"

Thankfully, it wasn't and hopefully, it won't be you either.
