Worried about a mole back of my eye

February I went to the opticians for eye test after years of not going, oct scan caught a scar and the optician asked if I had injured my eye! the optician didn’t say anything about referring me to the eye infirmary unit.

I received a call the next day to come in they day after with no idea why and they dilated my eyes; did slit test and something else.

The doc who I seen said that I had a mole at the back of the eye, he was referring me to have an ultrasound but again I wasn’t told anything!

18 weeks later received a letter in the post for an ultrasound appointment, 4 weeks wait just saying the time of appointment and where I had to go!

At the appointment, they dilated my left eye, scan with me facing different ways looking into a machine then waited to see a specialist to the ultrasound

The guy did the ultrasound on my eye said looks ok and he wants me to come back in 6 months for another ultrasound as the mole will grow

I use to get checked at a hospital for my moles till I was a teenager, but I never found known about a mole in my eye!

I am 35 years old with autism and anxiety, no family history of skin cancer or melanoma on my mothers side but I never met my father so no idea of their medical history

Also I have been going to the doctors with issues, they sad it’s all in my head and there is nothing wrong

my nan passed away from Hopkins lymphoma in 2011 and my uncle died 2 years ago from something else

Has anything had this problem not receiving anything info or help?

  • Hello Jaynec

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently needed to have some investigations for a mole that was discovered in your eye by the optician. It's understandable that you may have some concerns and questions about why you were referred and what has been happening.

There's some useful information available from Oxford University Hospitals that I've linked for you here about moles in the eye. Hopefully this will give you some reassurance.

If you still have questions then don't be afraid to get in touch with the department secretary to ask for an appointment to talk with someone about your appointments so far. If you need support to do this then the hospital PALS department will be able to assist you.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
