Pain in my left breast under my left armpit

Not so long ago I went to the Dr's as I felt discomfort under my arm pit it felt like I had tiny grains of sand in my arm pit that where really sore and annoying. They where there for several weeks. The Dr sent me for a mammogram and scans the mammogram came back clear but the scans (ultrasound) of my armpit showed that I had clusters of swollen lymph nodes. I was sent away with no follow up and was told that it was likely due to an infection in my body and it should settle down by itself within a few weeks. 6 weeks passed and it didn't. I started to get a little concerned so I started to medicate myself with anti inflammatories like ginger and turmeric. Which really helped and seemed to work. Until today.

This morning I was sitting in my garden watching my pups playing I hadn't felt well when I had got up this morning. When I stood up to come inside I suddenly got this sharp stabbing pain at the side of my left breast just below my left armpit it was excruciating where I had to grab my breast I let out an almighty scream. After the pain subsided. The side of my breast Continued to feel like it was burning and continued to do so. All day I was getting sharp stabbing random pains. In the end I got so concerned that I called 111. They sent a ambulance who where fantastic and checked me over and was here for a good hr they said its not my heart but could not rule out a blood clot as this is what I was concerned about but said by my symptoms it does not act in that way. They where not sure what was going on they could only assume that it's related to the clusters in my lympnodes. I am currently waiting for a Dr to call. I am very worried that this could actually be a form of cancer of the lympnodes and they missed it and now it's spread

  • Hi Jojogogo,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You have done the right thing in getting this investigated. How did you get on with the doctor when s/he called?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you got on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi back again I was diagnosed with

costochondritis  was not sent for any test just had a feel of the area by Dr and sent on my way. I am still very concerned though as we have alot of history of breast cancer and other cancers in my family the pain hasn't subsided at all over the last few days and still get the stabbing pains I am at my whitts ends at what to do I have just been told to take ibuprofen to ease the pain well it doesn't do anything to help another thing I have noticed since it has started it may not be related but  I find it really weird my nose is streaming and I keep sneezing it's like I have developed hayfeaver and I have never had any allergies before it's really strange. I have to go back to Dr's on thur for my health check and bloods maybe my bloods will pick up something then but won't hold my breath. Any advice would be appreciated. As I feel that I am not being listened to I know my body and something is not right I was at Drs last week due to my ever increasing migraines and I spoke to Dr about my weight loss as I was 13and a half stone about 2 years ago I am now 58kg I eat healthy and have the odd choccy binge don't eat junk food. When I was at Drs last week I weighed in at 60.4kg when I  went yesterday I weighed in at 58.2kg not a dramatic drop but a significant amount in 5 days this should be getting investigated and it's falling on deaf ears I am constantly tierd all the time. As I have said any advice would be appreciated

  • Hi Jojogogo,

I am sorry to hear that your visit to the doctor was less than satisfactory. Was this the emergency doctor or your own GP? I am glad to see that you have your health check on Thursday. Be sure to mention how you feel again and ask for a referral to the breast clinic. Staff there have access to all of the tests that you are likely to need to be able to put your mind to rest.

Just as an aside, it is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer, so the doctor you saw may well be right.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi again I never tend to see one particular doctor at my surgery it's always different Dr's I think this is part of the issue, but I will be sure to mention my concerns on thur

  • This is probably helpful, because if you're not happy with one doctor, you can always see another one, who might take you more seriously.

    Kind regards,

  • I too have been told my breast pain is coming from costacongritus and like yourself I am worried sick as this is 5 months later and still having the pain let’s hope they have it right

  • Hi Scotty,

I am sorry to hear that you have this too. I am not a doctor, but I believe that in some cases, this can last for over a year. Have you had any treatment for this? As I said to Jojogogo, you can always get a second opinion if you are not sure of the diagnosis.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey just a quick update, I was ready to go to my appointment but they cancelled right at last minute due to an illness at surgery. My appointment now is this afternoon.

My pain hasn't subsided any but there has been a slight shift to the area seems to be spreading maybe this is due to pressure as I do tend to sleep on that side habit even though I don't fall asleep on it, I always tend to wake up on that side. I wouldn't wish this on anyone it's not nice, and can be quite scary. Hopefully it will heal soon. I feel for you scotty sending you love hope you heal soon x
