Hernia after cancer op

Hi has anyone had a incisional hernia after a major cancer op? I am 18 months post surgery to remove a well differentiated liposarcoma along with my left kidney and part of my bowel. I recovered very well but it’s left me with a hernia that is now becoming slightly painful at certain times.

  • Hello MrsZ,

I am pleased to hear you recovered well after your surgery. I can imagine this hernia is causing you a little bit of trouble at times. Have you talked to your medical team about it and is there anything they have suggested which could help to manage this pain?

Other members of our community may have had a hernia too following a cancer operation and I hope that they will come and share their experience with you shortly. It does help to talk to others who are or have been in a similar boat.

Our cancer nurses are also just a free phone call away if there is anything you would like to ask them at any point - they can be reached on the free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the pain caused by this hernia eases and that your doctor will have some helpful advice to help you deal with this.

    Best wishes,
