Endometrial hyperplasia

Hi. I was recently on holiday where I had a tiny bleed. I’d recently had a steroid injection so I put it down to that. I’d had one years ago and did the same thing. But my friend said you must tell your GP. I’d not had a period since 2017, six years.

So I did tell my GP. Had a scan. Had an appointment in Gynae last week where I had a hysteroscopy. Never had anything so painful in my life. Problems with my section scars.  Was told my womb had a thick lining as per scan. The nurse/doctor doing the hysteroscopy said the womb looks pretty good. But has sent a biopsy off.

I saw the letter from the hospital to my GP on my record and my lining on my womb is 20.5mm. So it is indeed thick. I know I’m over weight and am always trying to be good and lose weight. Never smoked or drank. Couldn’t have HRT due to losing mum to Breast Cancer when she was 59. So have/are getting through menopause alone.  Have had a lot of stress lately and I know that doesn’t help either.

it’s the waiting for the results that’s getting to me, and the not knowing what if anything will happen. Surely either way they won’t leave someone with such a thick lining as it could still turn apparently. But I’m hopeful the result will be negative, but ooh to tell my brain that. It won’t switch off.

Thanks for reading.

  • From my own experience, I'd doubt they would just leave you with a thick lining, even if the biopsy gives you the all clear. My gynae issues have been with cysts, polyps, fibroids and thickened womb lining - all tests have been clear/negative for cancer. The thickened womb lining has been put down to hormonal imbalance. Treatment for me is a mirena coil as it releases progesterone more locally and should reduce the womb lining gradually but there are other options. I have already have had a further biopsy 6 months after initial one and will have another 2 yet at 6 month intervals before they would discharge me - so you can see they are monitoring the womb lining and its thickness carefully.

Waiting for results is awful and I wish you all the best for the results
