Worried - waiting to find out what's going to happen next re my 29mm thickness of endometrium lining

Hi all

I am in that awful period waiting to know what will happen to me.

I started having very slight bleeds on paper after wiping about 4 weeks ago and doctor thought it was a urinary infection which it wasn't. So I was sent on a fast track cancer appointment to urology and had a cystoscopy which showed a normal bladder. Then I had a transvaginal/ pelvic scan (very uncomfortable) which revealed a very thick lining of my uterus 29mm and a polyp 19x14x11. It has taken my GP a week to refer me to the gynaecolgy dept since having the results and I have  now been given an appointment to see a doctor next Tuesday at the hospital. Not for a hysteroscopy as I was expecting. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar and due to the thickness of the lining they will suggest a hysterectomy straight away. I am 65. Not overweight and don't know why I have this problem. I am crossing my fingers that I haven't got any more cancer anywhere else...

Any help or words of wisdom would be gratefully received!

  • Hello Orival,

I can imagine this is a very stressful time for you as you are waiting to be seen by the gynaecology department - it won't be long now until you are seen at the hospital and I hope that your appointment goes well next Tuesday. I know it's really hard but try if you can not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many conditions other than cancer which could explain this thickened endometrium lining. Many members of our forum have been in a similar position before and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

The wait for answers is definitely the hardest thing and I can imagine this is making you feel anxious this weekend. Try if you can to keep busy and stay away from the temptation to look anything up online as this will only make you feel more worried. There are helpful tips on this page to  help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • So 3 weeks on from gynae appointment and an excruciating experience of an endometrial biopsy. I have waited now 3 weeks for the results. Since the biopsy I’ve developed an infection, reaction to the antibiotics now started a new course today. But why do we have to wait so long for results? It’s inhumane…just want to know what needs to be done..

  • So after nearly 4 weeks of wait I had a call this morning to say that my biopsy shows a mixture of low and high grade cancer cells.  I will need an MRI and then further look at my biopsy slides followed by hysterectomy and possible further treatment.  I am now having to wait for another appointment for the MRI scan. The team only meet once a week so it's going to be another wait until my treatment is planned leave alone the surgery needed.  I had a feeling it was going to be this result so I am keeping strong.

The worst thing is waiting and the second is feeling pain in my abdomen as though a donkey has kicked me.  I want to get this pesky tumour our of my body ASAP but NHS can't work quickly although I know they have to do the necessary tests before surgery.

Anyone gone through this and can send me positive experiences?
