oesphagus cancer and questions to ask Oncologist

Hi my dad has just been given his results from his CT scan and scope that he has oesphagus cancer that has spread to the

Liver. He literally only got the results 2 days ago. He is due to meet his consultant on Monday to let him know what the plan is.

Thankfully the Oncologist told him that he can treat both areas. But that is all we know as it was on the phone and nobody was

with my father when he got the call.

So I suppose what im advice im looking for is when we go to meet the Oncologist on Monday is there any specific questions we

should ask. We literally only know the above and nothing else.

Thanks for any bit advice

  • Hello Loggy

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. Understandably it's a difficult time for you all and natural that you want to make sure you ask pertinent questions at the appointment on Monday.

It sounds positive that the Oncologist has said they are looking to treat both areas and I hope that they can give your Dad some more reassurance on Monday.

If you want to chat things through with one of our nurses ahead of that appointment, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to help with any advice and support they can.

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Ask as many questions as you like, write them down and also write the answers down. Research shows we patients forget about 70 of what we’re told when we’re stressed!
All the obvious questions are worth asking - what type of OC is it (there are two), what stage, what grade, what are the treatment option and when will treatment start.

    Best wishes
