Newly diagnosed

My name is Kelvin, I’m 43 married just on 18yrs and have 2 lads, 21 and 16.
I went to my GP in feb 2019 with a small lump in my chest. After several visits and several rejected referrals as the GP said it no more than fatty tissue or a cyst, i insisted on being sent to minor surgery. It was now September
the so called cyst was removed on the 10th dec 2019, I had dissolvable stitches and no follow up. No more said

fast forward to 3rd April this year, in the same spot I had the so called cyst removed, a growth was starting to appear and had been getting visibly bigger over a few weeks. I went back to the GP somewhat vain as I was due to go on a beach holiday. This time I saw a different
GP who looked through my notes, and shockingly told me the cyst was sent away for histology and the results came back 8th January 2020 as DFSP. I had a 0.7cm sarcoma which required a wide local excision urgently.
id had cancer for 4 years,  my GP had received the results from pathology, and them results where never given to me.
last week I has surgery to remove not 1 but 2 sarcomas. 1 was 7x7cm the 2nd 5x3cm.
Ive been informed if the GP had not dismissed my concern on the couple of occasions he did, and I’d been given the cancer results at the time, in January 2020 when the 1 sarcoma was 0.7cm I’d have still had s procedure, but with local anaesthetic and the scar would have been approximately 1.5-2cm.
Due to the delay in diagnosis and treatment I had surgery 7/6/23. I’m now left with a 18cm cut with 29staples holding it together, a 5x5cm open wound awaiting a skin graft, part of my pec muscle cut away on both sides and 6 weeks of radiotherapy to come.
I’m still here to tell my story which is the main thing. I complained to my GP surgery about the level of care I’ve received which I think is appalling, to get a reply from my GP dismissing all accountability and even insisting it was down to me to ask for the results of the biopsy and not down to him. He states he doesn’t receive the results even though I have obtained copy of the report that was sent to him confirming DFSP.
I feel he’s been negligent and I might seek legal advice.

  • First of all Kelvin I hope you heal well and quickly your treatment was appalling I cannot stress that enough ,please do not let this go someone has messed up big time and  put your life in danger ,they are making excuses and also lying because it was up to them to inform you of something so serious and not for you to get in touch with them ,for the sake of yourself and maybe for others I would definitely take Legal Advice they need to realise you will not be fobbed off ,if you don't do it you might regret it further down the line ,take care and Best Wishes Jenni .

  • thanks for your reply, I’m thinking the same, I’d be raging if it was 1 of my parents or worse 1 of my kids. So taking action and the surgery needing to know is the least I can do, at best to prevent someone else receiving the same treatment from someone obviously not fit to practice.
    Best wishes
