Losing my Brother

I joined this group in the hope that i could talk to other people who have loved ones that have have a terminal diagnosis.

My beloved brother is dieing from esophageal and liver cancer , he is suffering alot of pain and its hard to watch . we are very close and selfishly i worry what i'm going to do without him ,

We are very much alike and although i love my other siblings i'm not as close with them . His wife has also been diagnosed with breast cancer and is going through chemo at the moment , they are both very brave and supporting each through r their treatments . they were hoping to have some quality of life together before the enevitable happens , but there lives seem to be about endless rounds of appiontments.

I am close to my sister in lnlaw and feel able to talk and listen and talk to both of them about the practical and the emotional side of the situation . its just difficult for me to be able to talk to someone .my Husband is i kind and loving man but he struggles with talking about emotional pain ,he,s a problem solver but you can't really solve this one.

  • Welcome to the forum CookieM although I'm so sorry to hear about your brother and sister in law.

I can't begin to imagine how incredibly difficult and heart-breaking this must be for you all but I'm glad you've reached out to us as you will find many of our members in a similar position with their loved ones, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will be able soon to offer some comfort and advice.

If you would like to talk anything through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you at this time.

You may be able to get further support, information and advice from Marie Curie, the UK's leading end of life charity who provide care and support for anyone with a terminal illness, including their family and friends.

I hope this section we have on our website about dying with cancer will prove useful as well.

We're thinking of you CookieM and sending all our strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
