Breast calcification’s biopsy

Hi I just wanted to post about my result as anyone reading this is probably absolutely terrified. I went for my 2nd mammogram in April I'm 53 I had the first one which was clear 3 years previous.

I felt quite confident that  all was ok,

then 2 weeks later got a letter saying they wanted to do further investigation.

I was still at this stage not too worried as couldn't  feel no lumps and was no change to my breasts.

I went to hospital in London where I was told by a nurse I had breast calcifications in right breast she said they were quite common and wanted to do another mammogram and a ultrasound and maybe take a biopsy but that would probably be on another day.

the radiologist was lovely she showed me the calcifications and said they were small and the doctor would explain more. The doctors said they were 3 mm so very small but wanted to do an ultrasound and then a biopsy the scan was clear did show some cysts.
I had the stereoscopic core biopsy then was sent home and given an appointment for a weeks time.

the first few days I was positive as they said was very common but then I did what we all do I started searching the internet and oh my goodness everything was not positive all I was seeing was positive results from biopsies I went into panic mode big time...

then the day before my appointment I received a call from the breast clinic to say I didn't need to come in tomorrow as my results were all clear and no further tests needed.

I know I am one of the lucky ones but I felt I had to post my experience as it's not always bad news.

I hope anyone reading this gets some comfort and I truly wish anyone going through anything like this the best of luck xx

  • Hiya, thanks for posting this

    Great news that you're ok

I'm due a biopsy after a mammogram and ultra sound found calcification in right breast. Small amounts in the left but the Dr. said she'd like a biopsy done as the right breast as there was a possibilty they may be pre cancerous in future. I asked her outright can she see any cancer in my breasts and she said no but obviously needs the biopsy done to rule out or not.

I've been ok with this as atleast if the biopsy comes back not good then it will have been picked up at pre cancerous stage or very early on stage.

Still can't help worrying though. But staying upbeat and positive .

  • Hi, just an update. Went for the biopsy just over 3 weeks ago. I was told the line of calcifications were around 4cm. Had core biopsys done either side of the calcifications and markers left in. Had phone call this evening from the Breast care unit to say the results were all clear. A big relief. I'm posting just to say that it isn't a given that biopsies always come back with not so good news. I was quite prepared for whatever results as calcifications are very early or pre-cancerous so I was ready to deal with that but obviously so relieved that alls ok. X
