Kidney Failure and melanoma

Hi everyone

I don't suppose there's anyone out there who has had a history of melanoma and gone on to have a kidney or any organ transplant?

I find myself in this situation. Having a primary melanoma in 2001, reaccurance in 2009 and then in transit met 2015. Have been ok since but we all know not to be complacent.

The odds of anti rejection meds after a transplant are pretty high for kicking off melanoma again so

my options for survival either way are pretty much reduced.

is there anyone out there?

  • Hello Merrywayday

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself facing the possibility of a kidney transplant. It's understandable that you have some questions and concerns.

I can't think of any members here who have been through this scenario but hopefully if there's anyone who does have experience they will post to share their experiences with you.

You may find more luck connecting with some through health condition-specific organisations such as Kidney Care UK or Melanoma UK

I do hope that you're able to find the support you're looking for and wish you well with your surgery.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I have no personal experience of needing an organ transplant I'm afraid but I recommend you follow Jenn's advice of contacting Melanoma Uk. Gill, who founded and runs this advocacy charity, may know of someone or others who are in your situation or can guide you in the right direction. I've sent you a friend request. If you accept it we can chat by private message and I can put some feelers out amongst the melanoma community. Good luck,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
