Backache after endometrial biopsy

Hi everyone, this is my first post.

I had endometrial biopsy almost three weeks ago.  After bleeding on hrt my dr referred me for an ultrasound which showed I had thickening of 9mm.  I had biopsy within a couple of weeks but since the biopsy I've felt awful.  I've had a really dull ache in my stomach and terrible lower back ache.  Mentally I'm worried sick and generally I feel dreadful although before the biopsy I was actually ok apart from bleeding and sore breastst due to tue hrt.  I just wondered if anyone had felt this washed out and had stomach and back ache for what's getting on for three weeks now.

Hope this all makes sense. X

  • Hello Lynnieee68 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I've had a look at our page on the endometrial biopsy and it mentions that it is not unusual "to have period type pains (cramping) during or after this test. Mild painkillers such as paracetamol, should help to control any pain. You may have some vaginal bleeding for a couple of days afterwards". Your symptoms have been lasting three weeks though which is quite a long time so I would definitely give your GP a call and explain that you've experienced this dull ache in your stomach and lower back ache for three weeks now and that you are worried about it. Explain that this started right after you had the biopsy.

I hope that you manage to talk to a doctor about this soon and that you will also hear from other members of our forum who have had the same types of symptoms right after having an endometrial biopsy.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

I had hysteroscopy on Tuesday and I was fine till yesterday but have got backache too. I've tried ibuprofen and a hot water bottle for the constant cramps I get. I've not had any bleeding but it sometimes feel like I'm just about to. I'm 55 on Monday and like you waiting for biopsy results. The weekdays seem ok as you think they might call but weekends are hard, I can't focus on anything much.
I hope you get good news I truly do. I'm scared as 5 years ago I went for a mammogram as they were calling in the below 50 cohort and from an anomaly seen in mammogram I ended up 2 weeks later with infiltrating invasive carcinoma of the breast.
I have been on Tamoxifen since and was expecting to come off it next month but then this cramping and pain started. I'm worried as I'm not sure I can cope with more cancer treatment. I meet too many of the risk factors ( all except obesity) and two weeks wait for biopsy is nerve wracking. I totally get how you must be feeling. Life has become reduced to a binary state.. have I got cancer again or not.
can I send you a virtual hug . Take extra special care of yourself if you can.
I can't seem to focus on very much. I've just distracted myself with cooking.. A LOT like as if I'm making special meals for a dinner party type things.

do you think our backache is stress related? I am going to give some guided meditation on you tube a go but I struggle hard to keep my mind on the meditation and end up thinking of cancer all over again..

my best wishes to you.. I hope you feel stronger soon

  • Hi RKS

Thank you so much for your reply.  You sound just as stressed as me and you've certainly already been through the mill already it seems

I'm 55 this October so the same age!  I have also had some weird sensation in my armpit for a few months now so awaiting an ultrasound on that so another agonising wait.  I feel like my back ache and stomach ache have been a bit better today but I'm just feeling different.  It's hard to explain.  Hopefully my biopsy results will come tomorrow as it's three weeks and they did say it would be three weeks.   I feel the same about weekdays and weekends.

Thsnks for the virtual hug.  Sending it right back to you xx

  • Did you feel better after? I have terrible pain since mine and feel awful

  • Hey Pinkycat,

I noticed you were hoping to hear back from Lynnieee68.

They haven't been on the forum in a while and that post they made was almost over a year ago so there's a chance you may not get a reply.

I really hope they will respond, but I just wanted to make you aware in case you hadn't noticed how long ago they had posted.

    Kind regards,
