Blood and stool tests normal, CT with contrast abnormal

I'm not sure how to introduce myself, just curious about the following. Can anyone tell me how effective blood and stool tests are at detecting inflammatory bowel disease? I had these and they came back normal but because of my symptoms I had a CT with contrast dye. I expected it to come back normal but I had a call from a Macmillan Cancer Nurse to explain that it had showed thickening of the bowel walls around the cecum and bloating and that I need an urgent colonoscopy. Other than cancer the likely causes of the thickening are inflammatory bowel diseases, however do the other normal test results make this unlikely?
