Panicking about referral to breast clinic

My mum passed away from breast cancer and I have a lump on my breast and just been referred and I am scared

  • HI Amy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mum to breast cancer and now have a lump yourself. I also lost my mum to secondary breast cancer, which had spread to her brain, bones, liver and lungs. Since then I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer myself. I was absolutely terrified when first diagnosed and naturally thought the worst, but I still lead a busy and fulfilling life 13 years on.

I don't know how long it is since you lost your mum. Treatments have improved dramatically in the past few years. There was just no comparison between the diagnosis, treatment and after care which mum and I experienced. It is a fact that out of every 10 people who attend the breast clinic, only 2 will receive a cancer diagnosis. There are fortunately other causes of breast lumps. The most common of these are benign cysts or fibroadenoma.

You will usually receive notification of  your appointment within 2 weeks from the date of referral. Please let us know when your appointment comes through and remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
