rollercoaster week

Hi I am 51 years old and this week has been a rollecoaster. Went to see the Nurse Practioner last friday as I thought I had my 1st period that lasted 3 weeks since October/November last year.   Orginally booked a blood test for April 24th and to wait to get a scan. Well I had the scan on the sunday and then got a phone call on the monday that I need to have a urgent blood test, which was this morning. I then saw the Nurse Practioner again after my blood test and she has made an urgent  referal for me to see the Gynaelogist. My scan was showing a of abnormalities etc and on the referal letter the reason for suspected cancer referal is for ovarian & endometrial.   My stomach has been bloating as long as I can remember, I have had no weight loss and always at a good weight currently 9 and half stone ish. I do have thyroid problems and was malignant neoplasia back in 1994.

sorry for the long introduction, I shall try to be calm and wait for my referal. thank you for reading

  • Hello jacks4

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself in this often difficult period of uncertainty whilst waiting for a referral appointment. We know that many people feel anxious when they are referred under a suspected cancer pathway but it's good to hear that you're trying to approach this wait calmly. A positive mindset will certainly help.

It sounds as if the specialist will already have some of the important information (blood and scan results) available to them when you see them so hopefully they will be able to give you some information and answers at your first appointment. It's possible though that you may need some further investigations before a full diagnosis can be given.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can along with helping you think about any questions you might want to raise with the specialist. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch jacks4 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

Thank you for ur kind words. I've seen my blood and scan results on my health record via the NHS app. Trying to understand it without getting myself ill over panicky about, well that was I tell myself!!

Scan results left ovary bulky 15ml  also mentions anechoic cysts. Lining of the womb is 6.1mm. Cystic spaces?

    Blood results ca125 is 22

    Fsh is 175 ?

There are other terminology I don't understand but I'm sure the gynaecologist will explain all !!!

I'm feeling more positive than I was at the start of the week which is good I guess.
