Pipelle biopsy result

Hi, I wondered whether anyone had been through anything similar? I gave birth 6 months ago. I started to have some discharge about 3 months afterwards and then this turned to light bleeding. I then had an internal examination done at the doctors and since then I have bled every day since the end of February. I got rushed through for an appointment as they suspected endometrial hyperplasia but I had a pipelle endometrial biopsy done last week which has found that the cells were all normal? I have been so worried for 2 months and I cried for an hour today when I got the results through. The only thing is I still don't know the cause as to why I'm bleeding like this and the hospital said to maybe look at having the coil fitted to regulate the bleeding which keeps happening? Has anyone else been given this advice and did going on the coil stop the bleeding?

  • Hi Kayleigh,

I am sorry to hear that you have had all this aditional worry, when you are looking after a new baby. I am not a doctor, but I have had friends who were in a similar position and had the coil fitted - and yes, it did work.

I know that this doesn't give you any answers and, like you, I would rather know what the reason was behind your symptoms. Have a word with your GP and see if s/he can shed any further light on the cause of your symptoms.

I hope that the coil works for you and lets you get back to normal living.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for replying to my message, it really helps to hear that someone is listening. It has been hard as the past 6 months with having my baby have been the best I've ever had but it's been clouded by having this going on in the background (I've not felt hungry, always tired as they said i was borderline anaemic and giddy when I walk around as well). I would like to know why the bleeding has been happening but it seems as if the hospital and doctors do not know why? And now that they have ruled out any malignant cells with the pipelle biopsy, they are going to try and fit the coil or give me the pill to try and stop the consistent bleeding. I just hope that this works and it's good to hear that you have friends who have had this done and it seems to have resolved itself. I do suffer from PCOS as well and used to have very infrequent periods (sometimes as little as 2 a year) but now it seems that I can't stop bleeding since the birth of my baby. The doctors have said that it could also be due to having PCOS but again no definite diagnosis. I will keep you updated and let you know how things go next week, just really want this bleeding to stop as it really is making me feel bad! Xx

  • Hi Kayleighjames,

It is tiring enough coping with a new baby, but this must make it much more difficult. I hope that all goes well next week and I look forward to your updates.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I was fitted with a mirena coil late February. I was told that hormonal inbalance had caused womb thickening and polyps. I had bled solidly for 3 months by the time the polyps were removed and the coil fitted and had had about 6-8 months of irregular bleeding up to 8 weeks at a time before then.

I'm a lot older than you and have had a coil in the past due to pcos and heavy bleeding and had no side effects and no periods.

I was told when this coil was fitted that it could take up to 3 or 4 months for everything to settle and after a week of no bleeding, the bleeding started again. At the 6 week check, I was still bleeding and was then given tranexemic acid tablets by the GP to stop the bleeding and give me some respite.

I would definitely try and talk to your GP - not just for explanation and discussion about the why and the coil but also to try and get something to get the bleeding to stop. Good luck
