Unexplained IDA Positive fit negative colonoscopy

Hi after blood tests at my GP for extreme tiredness my results are back with unexplained iron deficiency anemia my level was at 2. I was then asked to do a stool sample twice which both came back as positive 97 and 100. After this I was asked to do a fit test which came back positive as well. I went for my colonoscopy yesterday and they didn't find anything, at all not a thing, and don't get me wrong I am so relieved but I'm also more worried incase something was missed I can't understand why I have the IDA and all the other tests have been positive and nothing at all was found has anyone else experienced this at all ?

  • Hello Dancetoyourtune and a big welcome to Cancer Chat!

It must be a huge relief for you that the colonoscopy didn't flag anything suspicious and that everything is normal. As you can see on our page on the colonoscopy, the colonoscopy is a very reliable diagnostic tool for any bowel issues as it looks at the whole of the inside of your large bowel.

It might be a good idea though to ring your GP to find out more about the unexplained iron deficiency that was picked up in your blood tests - your GP will also have some good suggestions too I am sure to tackle this iron deficiency and improve your feelings of extreme tiredness. You could also ask what may have caused this positive FIT test. Having this conversation with your doctor will I am sure give you a lot of answers to the questions you are asking yourself.

I hope that you will also hear from other members who have had this happen to them too and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
