Glioma

Hi My Mum was diagnosed with a Glioma brain tumour last week. We was shocked  as she was only refered for a scan on her brain because she has a voice tremor, basically her vocal cords in her throat wobble and it causes a tremor, she just sounds like a frail old lady, but actually she is really fit. . However the consultant says this kind of voice problem is not related to Glioma, they have never seen a  voice tremor as a symptom. Other than that she has no other symptoms other than the odd headache. She has had no seizures.

My mum is a little unsure if she should have the biopsy. She has been told it is inoperable as it is diffuse and it is spread across her temporal lobe ,  but early mri scans suggest it may be low grade. It has not grown from her 1st scan in November to her second scan in February. As she had no other symptoms, she is not sure if she should watch and wait to see if it grows. or have the biopsy to be sure now what she is dealing with .

She  is so scared of having the biopsy after she read about the risks involved and she is worried that if she has the biopsy it might interfere with her brain and make matters worse. She is 72 .

  • Hi Alfielove,

My wife had a brain biopsy last week. It went very well, they got the samples they wanted. It helps them decide on the course of treatment and confirms what the cancer is.

They admitted my wife to the specialist ward the night before, and she stayed the night after the operation.

The hospital care was very good.

The biopsy confirmed my wife has a grade 4 cancer tumour.

Radiotherapy etc will start soon. The size of the tumour and where it is above the left ear makes it tricky to operate on.
