Post op pain and discomfort

I had "donut" lumpectomy and lymph node removal around 15 months ago followed by 5 rounds of radiotherapy.  Today, after all this time, I am happy to say that I have had no pain or discomfort at all.  It has been dwindling over the past weeks, but I did think I might have pain of some kind forever as it continued for so long.  Hope this helps others who may be in pain after treatment.  It will get better.

  • Hello ZM

I wanted to post to say thank you for sharing your story. It's good to hear that after all this time the pain and discomfort you experienced after your treatment has finally settled and I hope that things continue to improve for you over the coming months.

I'm sure that your post will, in the future, offer support and hope to others who may find themselves in similar circumstances.

    Best wishes,

    Hi ZM,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I think that we often underestimate or overestimate the amount of pain we a likely to have after any procedure. I am 13 years down the line from 2 bouts of surgery for breast cancer and it took me a long time to feel pain free after surgery. It is reassuring to others who are 'going through the motions' to know that the pain does eventually settle down, so thank you for taking the time to let us all know.

People who are in similar circumstances can gain support and hope from this fact  - and heaven knows, we could all do with some of that!

Here's wishing you well for the future and hoping that you remain pain free.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
