Hpv & dyskaryosis

Hi I received a letter through the door regarding my smear test saying I'm hpv positive & they have found low grade dyskaryosis I have to go for a colposcopy on the 6th April, I suffer with major health anxiety but I can't keep myself away from google. Everyday I am reading the letter over and over because I'm scared of what's to come! Has anyone else ever had the same issue?

  • Hello Mom232023

I'm sorry to hear that your recent cervical screening results have come back showing that you are HPV positive with low-grade cell changes. We get many women posting here on the forum who have received similar results and are very worried about what this may mean for them.

I would strongly recommend that you stay away from searching the internet for information. Lots of what you can read online isn't up to date or are worst-case scenarios. Trawling Google for information won't give you answers but it will feed into your anxiety and leave you feeling even worse.

Instead, if you want some good, solid information about HPV and cell changes then I'd recommend looking at the Jo's Trust website.

Try to remember that cell changes are not cervical cancer and having them does not mean you will develop cervical cancer. Most cell changes will get better by themselves or with treatment.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your appointment on the 6th April brings you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
