Breast Cancer, just had second lumpectomy. Feeling very low

Good morning,  I'm 58 and have recently undergone a 2nd lumpectomy with the removal of glands/lymph nodes.  This was completely unexpected insofar as I did not take onboard that the first operation might not be sufficient.  Safe to say, mentally, I'm not in a great place waiting on the next pathology results in a week (hopefully) to decide next stage treatment. Advanced apologies for this selfish splurge.  Just feeling very low.

  • HI Pebbles,

A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear that you have not got clear margins and have had to go in again for further surgery. This is not uncommon and comes as quite a shock to the system. The one good thing is that, whereas this might have been overlooked in the past, pathology now picks up on it.

There are a number of ladies here, who have gone through this. Now you have aother anxious wait for the results - have you been given a date for these? Here's hoping that they will be fine this time.

No apologies needed for the splurge. We all need somewhere to vent - that's what we've here for - the cancer rollercoaster.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you so much for your kind words and support.  I'm waiting on a date for the latest results and will chase up once my current dressings are removed tomorrow.  It certainly is a physical and emotional rollercoaster!

    Best wishes,

    Pebbles xx

  • Hi Lara,

at the time I was scared but as weeks go by it gets less less less and before you no it it was like a bad dream I feel it was my past life it's not welcome in my future the only thing now is to take the daily tablet and annual mammograms I can manage that , you will soon be feeling back to yourself x

did you have full auxiliary node clearance ?

  • Okay so just navigating the really scared period at the moment.  Don't have my results yet.  Have to wait another week at least.  Will chase up for date tomorrow as am having the current dressings removed.  My anxiety is also exacerbated by the pretty serious suggestion that I may need chemo as well as radiology.  Any advice here? xx
