Hi SL51,
I am sorry to hear that you didn't get clear margins. Still, you're better to find this out now, rather than later on. The best news is that there is no evidence of invasive cancer. Did they give you any indication of when they'd do your next surgery and are there any plans for you to have hormone therapy?
The worst should be over for you now, as you now know exactly what you've got and your next surgery should be fairly straightforward.
I hope that you don't have long to wait for your next surgery.
Please let us know how it goes and remember, that we are always here for you.
Regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi JulieAlison,
All this uncertainty plays havoc with your imagination. Try to find a pastime or interest that can keep you preoccupied for a time and takes your mind off cancer. Also, try to steer clear of consulting 'Dr Google', as this will only worry you more. Much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. We all worry about surgery, but it is often the most straightforward part of the whole process.
Have you got a date for surgery next week? I sincerely hope that it all goes well. Please remember, that we are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Thanks. Will let you know
big hugs xx
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I started my chemo on Friday, I had to wait six weeks for it all to begin. After five months of chemo I'll need to choose between lumpectomy v double mastectomy (they found it in my left breast too much later), then radiotherapy.
Do you know if you will need chemo yet?
The waiting period is the worst, yes. Waiting for results and scans and a treatment start date - it's good that you have one.
I was actually told I had secondary breast cancer as there was something on my lung, but then the radiologist disagreed. Further imaging showed it was a benign, unrelated tumour they can remove at another stage. Extraordinary really.
I just did small things each day that made me feel more in control. It could be going for a long walk, making a meal or folding laundry. Sounds stupid but it helped. There's nothing you can do to usher things along. I also watched a lot of trash like Love Island, ha ha. Not being the master of your own ship is rough, I know.
Any surgery is scary but lumpectomies way less invasive and with far less risk of complications etc than a mastectomy, you will be in good hands.
All my love
