Breast Pain left breast

Hi I've been googling for weeks and so glad a post came up on here as all the others sites always seem to end up with breast cancer!!   Just after Xmas I made an appointment with gp, thought I was seeing gp as I've had breast pain and  under arm pain, but when I got there it seemed to be a student doctor to be fair I thought she did give a good examination she said she couldn't feel anything  and after she spoke to a doctor was giving naproxen for a month.  As she thought a strain.  Tablets didn't work maybe took a bit pain away under the arm but definitely not in my boob. Was at doctors for another reason and mentioned my boob, she examined me again but this time said I can feel something I'm referring you, appointment is this Friday but worried sick now she said this , I've prodded and poked it I can't feel anything different to before Xmas.  Pain can be intense down left side and down to nipple , one day and the next there but not as intense.

    Hi Trig,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Please try not to worry too much about your referral to the breast clinic, as it is a fact that only 2 people out of every 10 will get a cancer diagnosis. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be fibroadenoma or cysts. This wait is always worrying, as we don't know what to expect and our imaginations tend to run into overdrive.

I am glad to see that you don't have much longer to wait for your appointment. You will find the staff at the clinic are usually very understanding and helpful. You may find that your consultant will want to carry out some further tests, the 3 most common being mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. If these tests are carried out, you may have up to another 2 weeks wait before you get the results of these. Make sure to ask when you can expect your results to be back before you leave the hospital. Many hospitals leave you in limbo, just waiting. It is easier to cope when you have a rough idea of when they'll be back.

I hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for your words.  Ano Friday and near enough first appointment so don't have to wait all day.   It's just so nice to put a search in and find other people with same symptoms and seeing their results and advice.  It's takes over your life googling.

    Hi Trig,

Whatever you do, try to avoid consulting 'Dr Google'. Much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the most spectacular cases. This will only serve to scare you even more. Breast pain seldom accompanies breast cancer, so here's hoping that all goes well on Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks I know I tell myself not to do it,  but when the pain is bad like today I can't help myself.  Two days where it's been in the background but  last night and today it's back with a vengeance. Painkillers don't seem to help really.

    Hi Trig,

Painkillers did nothing for me either, even though my arm could be very sore at times. Are you a nurse?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • It eased off this afternoon it's so weird but last night and this morning the pain was  was terrible.   No I'm not a nurse I work in a blind company stitching, taking orders, answering phones and seeing customers.

    Hi Trig,

I found that the pain in my arm came and went - still does at times. I'm glad to hear that your pain eased off this afternoon. Here's hoping that you manage a good night's sleep tonight.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • It's so weird it's as though it flairs up from under armpit down to my boob/nipple it really painful then it seems to ease abit bit always seems to be there.  Painkillers have done nothing including the naproxen the doctor prescribed.  How long have you suffered with the pain ?

    Hi trig,

It's about 11 years now, but I also have bilateral lymphoedema, which doesn't help.

  • Oh what a nightmare it must be so painful.   I'm hoping mine eventually goes away.   Been to hospital saw the clinician who found a lump no where near where the doctor said it was, but he thought it wasn't sinister, went for mammogram and ultrasound which didn't show anything at all they said everything was fine but when I went back to clinician he said he'd prefer to take biopsy but  is convinced its fatty tissue so ten to 14 days for those results.  Least everything was done today.     As far as pain evening primrose and pain killers or ibuprofen painkillers or cream.   So fingers crossed everything is ok.
