  • Hi Caroline

You situation is very similar to mine. I was on a 12 month recall for smears due to HPV virus. I was called for a smear in December. The nurse struggled to do the smear and eventually gave up - she said i had a slight prolapse and she couldnt reach my cervic. She booked me in with another nurse who did the smear noi problem anbd said she could she the prolapse just pocking through. Not too concerned at this stage i knew i had a weak bladder and just thought ill start doing pelvic floor exercises.

My smear results came back HPV positive no abmornal cells but as i hadnt cleared the virus within the 2 years i was refered to colspsy to check no my cervix and the appointment was for 6th February.  I go for the colospy and the doctor sets her camera up. She said my cervix is very high have i got something in my vagina? She then does an iternal and said she could feel a ''mass'' of around 6cm. She said she thought it may be a fibriod but would arrange an urgent ultrascan as ''we need to know what we are dealing with''  I was completly shell shocked and didnt really ask any further questions. The nurse told me not to worry.

My appointment has come through for the 23rd February. I'm going out of my mind with worry. I've lost 4lb's in weight (normally id be overjoyed) . I thought fibriods were in women of child bearing age - im 58 and almost 5 years post menopause. I'm clinging on the the fibroid route as its the only way i can keep sane.

    Good luck Caroline

  • Thank you so much Karen... it's amazing how helpful it is to relate! Very similar... one good thing for you is they have been seeing you every year so maybe if it is nasty it hasn't had too much time??
it's totally terrifying.. I am bumbling about not really in my right mind... I keep making snap decisions! yes it's a first for me to lose my appetite! I am a stone overweight at least so if I lose a bit it will make things easier for treatment... isn't it just typical to get an issue in such an awkward place... I can't work out where the 'mass' is? Have we got potentially not cervical but vaginal? Yikes...

who are you sharing with at present? It feels hard to know what to do re this pre diagnosis.., ugh!

do keep posting ... how are you getting through each day? Do you have support?

sending anti-cancer vibes your way x

  • Thank you for your reply Caroline

I am married and have a 23 year old daughter. My husband just says to keep positive but at the moment im finding that very difficult. I think the very worst thing you can do is to google your  symptoms - which of course is exactly what ive been doing!

Both my mom and mother-im law have had endometrial cancer, their symptoms were bleeding after the menopause. They have both had hystertomys and are still here to tell the tale. I have not presented with any post menapusal bleeding so im looking upon that as a postive sign.

Has a ultrasound been arranged for you? And do you have a date yet?

  • Love hearing more... yes the two mums! Fantastic!
