Hi Ella-d,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
There are a number of different groups that meet up for all of these activities.Maggies Centre or The Haven are probably the best known in Scotland. Both of these alway offer a friendly welcome, a cuppa and the chance for a chat. They also offer alternative therapies, such as Reiki, Reflexolofy, Indian Head Massage. They also arrange walking groups for people of differing abilities and seated yoga classes. I may be wrong, but I believe that your nearest Maggies Centre is possibly in Dundee.
Most areas have other local groups particular to their area. Ask your cancer care team, or at your local GP practice for details. Your local library may also be able to help.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Would love to find a support/social group in Plymouth
it's not my home town but it's where I am for now. On extremely limited resources and away from my close friends...,
how do people get through the waiting for diagnosis stages? I feel unhinged!
Hi Littlefluffy,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
You do not say what sort of cancer you are looking for support in, but from looking at your other posts, I presume that it is gynacological. There are a number of different support groups in Plymouth. I have just done a quick check on the internet and found :-
"Gynae Girls is a social group for women affected by any form of gynaecological cancer (cervical, ovarian, etc). We meet to share experiences, hold social events and raise awareness of these cancers. We meet on the last Monday of each month from 6.30 p.m at The Invicta Hotel, 11-12 Osbourne Place PL21 2PU just off Plymouth Hoe
Come along or contact Gynae Girls on gynaegirlscsg.plymouth@gmail.com or 07754665832. You will be warmly welcomed."
There is also a Maggie's Centre at University Hospital Southampton, where you'll be welcomed with a cuppa and can have a chat with others. They also offer alternative therapies such as Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Yoga, etc. These are all free of charge. They arrange walking groups too for people of different abilities.
Once you join these groups, you will find out about other local groups from the people you chat to.
Waiting for results is always an anxious time. Do you know when you will get yours?
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
