HPV Positive and Borderline Changes to my Cells

Hi new to all this, i recently got my results for my smear test I am 28 now and put this off for 3years and i know thats bad but now getting the postive result for HPV and Adnormal cells I now cannot stop worrying about everything. For the past 9months i have gone to the doctors with heavy bleeding or continuous bleeding that would last 3-4weeks and it felt like no one was listening, now getting the results i went on to the NHS webiste and seen this could be a sign or cervical cancer and now really am worrying with it all. I am waiting for my appoitment for my colposcopy which i have been  told will be up to two weeks time, feels like forever but i just feel like all i am doing at the moment is worrying and i know millions of women are probably feeling the same but i just cant get it out my head and i am just thinking the worst

  • Hi, I not so long ago had something similiar, but. Minus the heavy bleeding prior.

All I'd say at the moment is, try not to worry, as stress in your body isn't good & whilst you wait for your results there's not a lot you can do. But as I mentioned I had the same two things & my results came back that they'd successful removed the abnormal cells, so just waiting a follow up smear in 3-4 months now.

I do still struggle with continuous bleeding inbetween my periods, which can be rather annoying, or after sex, but I'll follow up with my GP about this.

  • Hi worryingwomen

I am in a similar position, although I'm 45! Positive HPV results in 2019, no abnormal cells. Due to the HPV I have to have a smear year, I had my 4th yearly smear on the 9 January, results came back on Saturday 21 January, HPV positive but this time abnormal cells. It started they had referred me for an urgent colposcopy within 2 weeks, I actually got my appointment for this on 24 January that the appointment was today 26 January! I was a nervous wreck but the nurses was lovely, they opened me up as they do when you have a smear, put some vinegar on my cervix to show the any abnormal cells, then they gave me a local anaesthetic to numb my cervix and took samples from the effective areas, they cartorised the area and that was that. I now have to wait 4-6 weeks for the results and await a plan on what they next steps are. Please don't worry your appointment should come through pretty quick like mine. If you need a chat about anything please just message me x

  • Hi thank you so much i have my appointment on Monday and am so nervous I'm struggling with the results side, Its so nerve wrecking, i have a weekend planned with my family to try and take my mind off of this, tbey are trying to be as supportive as they can but i cant stop thinking and wondering and i really dont know how i will be if they will have to take samples and me wait. I keep hoping for best case and they say its ok but deep down i cannot stop worrying, but it is so nice to hear other people are feeling the same and can understand the feelings i am going through. Thank you so much
