Tonsil cancer

Hi there, I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer stage 1 which had spread to one lymph node in April last year

I have had the course of chemo radiation (on the torpedo trial) and am recovering well

At my post treatment PET scan I was told that the lymph node had not gone and would need an MRI scan to check if there was still disease in it. I had the MRI and was told that the lymph node is still there it no sign of disease.
I then received a phone call from my consultant to say I needed a further MRI scan after 3 months to see if the lymph node had gone

just wondering if anyone else with similar cancer and treatment has experienced this

thank you

  • Welcome to our forum, Cavaliermum.

I' sorry to read that last year you're diagnosed with tonsil cancer but I'm glad that you're recovering well.

Hopefully others who are going or have gone through a similar situation will be along shortly to share their stories with you and offer advice but until they do feel free to join the conversations going on here. To look for threads where members are talking about similar concerns just insert the terms you want in the 'search forum' tool on the upper left corner of this page and that should yeld the content you want.

The other thing I wanted to share is a page from our website that covers tonsil cancer. I hope this can be of help.

    With best wishes,

  • Hello there,

I believe that a 3 monthly MRI is pretty standard & is routine for the 1st year post chemo-radiotherapy for tonsil cancer. My two occurrences were both treated with surgery alone, so my follow up care has been slightly different but ...

Most patients will attend a regular mixture of scans & clinical examinations for the 5 years following their treatment.

I hope that answers your question.

  • Thank you for replying and that is reassuring

    hope you are well

  • Yes thanks. Coming up to 5 years since 1st occurrence & 4 years since 2nd.

Rebuilding our lives after they were so violently knocked off course!

Best of luck with your own rebuilding program.
